Leather
For our leather products, we use bovine leather that’s been tanned using a specially developed hybrid process. This gives our gear the renowned durability of mineral-tanned hides, and also a richness and ability to age handsomely like the vegetable-tanned heirlooms we treasure from past generations.
Our leather partner has a longstanding Gold rating from the Leather Working Group (LWG)—their highest rating. The LWG is a non-profit “watchdog” which performs inspections and awards ratings to use as a benchmarking tool in assessing environmental compliance of leather manufacturers:

Gnarlon™
For our sunglasses, we sourced a remarkable shape-memory material made from castor plants, and combined it with ultra-flexible and durable TPU in a combo we call Gnarlon™.
MagLock® Sunglasses are 45% plant-based to be exact! Bio-based Pebax® Rnew® is made from sustainably farmed castor beans. Castor plants absorb atmospheric CO2 during their growth cycle, resulting in a material with a reduced carbon footprint. The resulting high-performance elastomer is lightweight, flexible and tough—without the need for harmful plasticizers.

This high-performance, eco-friendly fabric is also made from castor beans (a renewable crop that doesn’t compete with food sources or cause deforestation). The castor oil is processed into Pebax® Rnew®—a flexible, durable polymer that’s up to 97% renewable carbon.
Then paired with recycled materials, eVent BIO is recyclable, water-resistant, chemical-proof and UV-resistant—a true innovation in sustainability. Unlike petroleum-based “vegan leather,” the item you hold in your hands is proof that long-wearing alternatives to leather can be eco-friendly, too.
